FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The symptoms and signs of kidney disease can vary depending on the severity and cause of the disease. However, some common signs and symptoms nephrologists from Singapore may detect include swelling in the legs, ankles, and feet, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting, frequent urination, blood in the urine, and foamy urine. Visit a kidney clinic if you are experiencing any of these symptoms for more insights from a trained kidney specialist in Singapore.

Several risk factors can increase the likelihood of developing kidney disease, including diabetes, high blood pressure, family history, age, race, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and smoking. Renal specialists from Singapore will most likely be able to determine which of these are the contributing factors through tests and consultation.

Kidney disease is usually diagnosed through medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests. Some standard tests that kidney clinics in Singapore may use to diagnose kidney disease include blood tests, urine tests, imaging tests, and kidney biopsies.

The treatment choices for kidney disease depend on the severity of the disease and the underlying cause. A few common treatment options include lifestyle changes, medications, dialysis and kidney transplantation.

In some cases, kidney disease can be prevented or delayed through lifestyle changes and medical treatment. For example, kidney specialists from Singapore may recommend reducing your risk of developing kidney disease through regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet, quitting smoking, managing diabetes and high blood pressure, and getting regular medical check-ups.

In some cases, kidney clinics in Singapore can restore kidney functions through medical treatment and lifestyle changes. For example, if the cause of kidney damage is high blood pressure or diabetes, controlling these conditions with the help of the best kidney specialist in Singapore can help slow the progression of kidney disease and preserve kidney function.

Kidney function may also improve on its own if the underlying cause of the kidney damage is treated. However, it's important to note that severe kidney damage may not be reversible, and kidney function may not be able to be restored. In these cases, treatments done by renal specialists from Singapore may focus on slowing the progression of the disease and managing symptoms.
